Sherpani Col Trek
Sherpani Col and Ice Col are situated in the eastern high Himalayas, seven valleys radiate from mount. Makalu. These valleys, particularly the Barun valley, treasure some of the last remaining pristine forests and alpine meadows of Nepal. From the bottom of the Arun valley, at just 435 m. above sea level, the Himalayas rise to the snow-capped peak of Makalu- 8463 m. within a 40 km distance.
The Ice Col trek route is a spectacular, seldom visited region of Nepal and crosses three High Mountain passes. On the final section, the route meets the popular southern approach to Everest Base Camp at Chhukung. The rare views are some of the most breathtaking in the whole Himalayan range: around you lie vista's of three of the world's five highest mountains: Makalu, Kanchenjunga and Everest.
This trek is considered as most technical trek and suitable only for
sporty people. If you are fit enough and have a sense of adventure you
will enjoy this trek. The program is designed to acclimatize you
gradually and not to experience high altitude sickness. Please note
that the following program is designed in the fact basis however can be
change in some circumstances but adjustments will have to made during
the trekking. We request you to be flexible with the situation to enjoy
yourself.
The climb ascends towards Khadbari and descending gradually, taking us from villages at 4570m to the Khongma Pass at 3,090m, allowing excellent acclimatisation. Beyond Num there are no villages. The track climbs all the way to Neghe Kharka, crossing the Barun Khola flowing from Makalu.
The trek starts from Tumlingtar after a short fly from Kathmandu. After the Makalu Base Camp we cross the 3 difficult passes which are Sherpani Col (6135m), West Col (6143m) and Amphu Laptsha Pass (5845m).Trekkers carry only day pack and walk on their own pace.
NOTE: The route to Sherpani Col (6,135m) involves a sustained period at
altitude with some steep slopes, but rewards one with powerful views of
Makalu (8,463m) to the north and the aptly named Island Peak (6,160m)
to the west. This is the realm of the glaciers, surrounded by the
unforgettable presence of the world's mightiest mountains; all in the
shadows of the towering bulk of Everest itself.
Average hiking per day in Sherpani trek 6-14 hrs.(14 hours is in high passes).
